Hotel checkout is at 11 AM. Your flight leaves at 6 PM. Those in-between hours decide how your trip ends — and dragging a suitcase into a crowded cafe is a sad way to end it. The fix is simple: store the bags first, enjoy Hongdae hands-free, then ride the AREX straight to the airport.
Step 1 — Drop your bags (pick by your exit route)
The trick is to choose storage based on where you’ll return to later:
- Taking the AREX? Choose storage connected to the airport-railroad concourse — grab your bag and walk straight through the gates.
- Oversized suitcase? Lockers won’t take it; use a staffed counter.
- Late-night flight? Make sure the locker or counter runs 24 hours (or late).
Small bags start around ₩2,000–3,000 for 4 hours; big suitcases about ₩5,000–9,000 per day. Compare every option by distance, price and size on Hongdae Luggage — and if you stayed in an Airbnb around Sangsu or Hapjeong, use its location feature to find storage near your place instead of hauling bags to the station.
Tip: photograph the shop name and exit number where you left your bags. After half a day of fun, it’s surprisingly easy to forget.
Step 2 — A hands-free half-day course
12:00 · Lunch. Hongdae has everything from hearty Korean set meals to famous noodle joints. Keep it on the lighter side — you’ll be moving all afternoon.
13:30 · Coffee. Toward Yeonnam-dong for quiet roasteries, or a spacious main-street cafe. This is the moment to soak up your last unhurried hour in Seoul.
15:00 · Gyeongui Line Forest Park. Walk the “Yeontral Park” trail and drift into side alleys — vintage shops, stationery stores, tiny galleries. This is what hands-free feels like.
16:00 · Last shopping run. Cosmetics and fashion on the main drag. Before buying anything bulky, ask yourself: will this actually fit in my suitcase?
17:00 · Repack and go. At the storage counter, open your case, pack the day’s purchases properly, and head down to the platform light-handed.
Rainy or scorching? Spend the half-day inside AK Plaza (AK& Hongdae), connected directly to the station — lunch, cafes and shopping in one building, then collect your bags and go down to the trains.
Step 3 — Timing the airport run
From Hongik University Station, the all-stop AREX takes about 50 minutes to Incheon T1, 60 to T2 (Gimpo: ~15 minutes). Budget:
- Bag pickup + reaching the platform: ~15 min
- AREX ride: 50–60 min
- International check-in: be at the airport 2–3 hours early
Pick up your bags at 5 PM and you’ll reach Incheon around 6:00–6:15 — comfortable for flights from 8:30 PM. Earlier flight? Shift the whole course earlier.
Note: the AREX Express does not stop at Hongik University Station — it runs from Seoul Station only. From Hongdae, take the all-stop train.
Final checklist
- ☐ Photo of storage location (exit number + shop name)
- ☐ Passport, valuables and power banks stay with you, not in stored bags
- ☐ Late flight → confirm 24-hour access
- ☐ Work backwards from your flight to set the pickup time
- ☐ T-money balance or payment method ready
