The Short Answer

  • The #1 spot changed hands. A 5,000-won Mommy Care Sea Grape Skin Pack pushed July's champion facial tissues down. Five weeks ago it was not in the top 300 at all.
  • But half the top 10 is still paper. Ranks 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are all tissues, wet wipes and toilet paper. The crown moved; the kingdom did not.
  • 143 of 300 items were replaced in five weeks — yet 9 of July's top 10 are still inside the top 20.
  • Summer walked out. Insect control 8 items to 1, dehumidifiers and deodorisers 19 to 9, cooling products 6 to zero.
  • The traveller verdict is unchanged: 500-won capsule packs. 8 of the 10 items at that price are skincare.

Last month we took Daisomall’s weekly sales ranking, all 300 places of it, and pulled it apart. The closing line was that the real value of this data would only show up when we ran the same list again.

So we did. July 29 and August 31, 2026 — same page, same method, 300 items each time. Lining the two lists up product by product forced us to rewrite our own opening sentence. In July it read “the #1 bestseller is not cosmetics, it is tissue paper.” Five weeks later, cosmetics took the top spot.

What knocked tissues off the top?

Mommy Care Sea Grape Skin Pack, 80 sheets, 5,000 won — the most expensive tier Daiso sells. It carries 17,168 reviews. And on July 29 it was nowhere in the top 300.

Only two names are new: #1 and #3. The other eight were all in July’s top 10 and simply slid down a place or two. The skin pack and the cleaner cut into the line, and everybody behind them stepped back one.

So “cosmetics took over the #1 spot” is only half true. What actually happened is that one cosmetic item wedged itself in front, and the scenery behind it did not move. Ranks 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are still paper and wipes.

How much of last month's argument survives: "5 of the top 10 are paper products" is identical in July and August. One crown changed. But skincare went from 52 items to 66, and its top-100 presence from 18 to 30. Our July line — that skincare has variety but not sales — got noticeably weaker in August.

Which categories grew and which shrank?

Sorting all 300 items into 13 categories and putting the two months side by side shows exactly how the seasons move through this ranking.

The heaviest losses are dehumidifiers and deodorisers (19 to 9) and insect control (8 to 1). Together those two categories fell from 27 summer items to 10. Skincare (+14) and other household goods (+14) took the space.

Tissue products actually grew, from 22 to 28. When a season leaves, consumables fill the gap — a structure you only see once you overlay two rounds.

How summer left the list

Last month we called this ranking a seasonal calendar for Korean homes. Five weeks is not even one square on that calendar, but the leaving is already fully visible.

🌡️ Five weeks of summer retreat

Summer signalJuly items · best rankAugust items · best rank
Cooling items (cooling patches, ice mufflers)6 · 26thnone
Mosquito products (coils, mats)2 · 118thnone
Fruit fly traps & sprays3 · 4th1 · 16th
Mould removers2 · 37th1 · 116th
Dehumidifiers12 · 10th7 · 25th
Deodorisers5 · 102nd2 · 118th

Cooling and mosquito products vanished entirely, not one left. Insects and heat go first; damp only half leaves. That is exactly what Korea feels like at the end of August — the air conditioning is off, but the post-monsoon stickiness lingers.

The reshuffle inside the dehumidifier category is especially sharp. July’s 10th-place Zeolite dehumidifier fell to 117th, and the stand-type dehumidifier that sat at 52nd dropped to 296th. Meanwhile Ppossong Ppossong Dehumidifier 4P climbed from 181st to 25th. Demand shrank, and the product meeting it changed.

No autumn or winter signal yet

Last month we predicted that by December this list would hold hand warmers, humidifier filters and anti-static sprays. On August 31 none of them are here. The space summer left is being filled by skincare and stationery, not by winter. Seasonal goods clearly exit before their replacements arrive. What moves into that gap next is the thing to watch in the next round.

The numbers hiding behind 9,999+

Last month we wrote that only 8 of the 300 items had crossed Daisomall’s display cap of 9,999+ reviews. On screen those eight all looked identical, so there was no way to tell which was the bigger steady seller.

This round we captured the uncapped review counts. It turns out the eight were nowhere near equal.

Two things stand out.

First, the review leader is not the sales leader. The most-reviewed item is the Ekkla wet wipes at 25,254, yet it sells at 6th. Against the corn scourer (12,666) — which looked identical on screen as “9,999+” — that is almost exactly double. You could never see that gap from the site.

Second, the items with many reviews but low ranks are nearly all cosmetics. VT Reedle Shot 100 has 16,680 reviews, 5th most on the entire list, yet sells at 152nd. Reviews are accumulated history; rank is this week’s sales. When the two diverge, it means the product sold heavily once and has cooled since.

How to Spot a Real Steady Seller

  • Ignore the star rating. The 300-item average is 4.81 and 97.3% score 4.7 or higher. The lowest is 4.5, so ratings tell you nothing.
  • High rank plus high reviews means it sold for years and still sells — tissues, scourers, detergents live here.
  • High reviews but low rank means a past hit. Not a bad product, just one whose moment passed.
  • High rank but three-digit reviews means it launched this month. Could be genuinely good, could be a push.

Detective Conan sits at 43rd — character goods finally arrived

Last month our evidence that tourist carts and local carts barely overlap was this: “zero character goods in the top 10, and the highest-ranked character product is a Disney wet wipe at 82nd.”

That sentence needs an update. The August list holds 11 Detective Conan stationery items, the best of them at 43rd.

🔍
43rd · Conan Masking Tape
1,000 won. Highest-ranked character item this round. Rated 4.9, still only three-digit reviews.
🖊️
Conan 3-colour Pens, 3 versions
1,000 won. Conan, Kaito Kid and Shinichi & Ran each charted separately.
🐭
52nd · Disney Mickey & Friends Wipes
1,000 won. The line that sat at 82nd in July moved into the 50s. Still a wet wipe.
🎨
133rd · F3 Art Canvas
1,000 won. Up 160 places from 293rd. This is the new school term talking.

All 11 Conan items are 1,000 to 1,500-won stationery: masking tape, pens, stickers, memo pads, pen cases. Ratings run 4.9 to 5.0 but review counts are only two or three digits. In other words, a batch of new releases sold at once — they are not steady sellers yet.

Overlay the art canvas climbing from 293rd to 133rd and the Twin Name Pen 3-pack from 284th to 162nd, and the picture resolves. Korean schools start their second semester at the end of August, a period known as gaehak. Stationery is moving into the space summer vacated.

The original point still holds: character goods grew to 18 items, but none of them reached the top 40. And the three highest-ranked Disney products are all three wet wipes — put a character on it and what sells is still a consumable.

Prices moved up one tier

Daiso still uses only six price points: 500, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000, 3,000 and 5,000 won. That structure has not changed. What changed is how the 300 items spread across it.

1,500 won56▲1
2,000 won6764▼3
3,000 won5957▼2

Only the 5,000-won tier grew, and it grew 53%. The 19 items that left the other five tiers effectively moved into the top one. Average price across the 300 rose from 2,057 to 2,280 won, up 10.8%.

Of those 52 items at 5,000 won, 24 are skincare — ampoules, creams and toners, full-size products rather than single-use sachets. The sea grape skin pack that took first place belongs to this group. Daiso is pushing its 5,000-won line and it is selling.

That said, the median price in the top 20 is still 1,000 won. More expensive items appearing on the list is not the same as expensive items owning the top of it.

Has anything changed for travellers?

Almost nothing — and that is the point of this price band.

The 500-won tier shrank from 13 items to 10, but 8 of those 10 are still skincare: capsule packs and sheet masks. While the seasons turned and half the list churned, this band held its ground.

Insider Tips for the Store

  • The seasonal aisle has already turned over. Through September the dehumidifier and insect displays shrink while stationery and back-to-school grow. If you want summer stock, check the clearance end first.
  • The five capsule packs sit together on one shelf. At 500 won each, all five come to 2,500 won.
  • Top-ranked cosmetics sell out often. The VT and Bonsep lines are frequently bare, so head for a larger branch first.
  • Sheet masks and capsule packs count as liquids. They can fall foul of the 100 ml carry-on rule, so pack them in checked luggage.
  • Online (Daisomall) and in-store prices are generally understood to be the same, but the range carried varies with store size.

What two rounds of data taught us

Three sentences.

  1. This ranking has two floors. The upper floor is nailed down — tissues, wipes, scourers, detergents. The lower floor churns by half every five weeks. Even the change at #1 was really just one item wedging in above the fixtures.
  2. Seasons exit before they enter. Cooling and mosquito products fell to zero while not a single winter item arrived. Skincare and back-to-school stationery are filling the gap instead.
  3. The traveller band ignores the seasons. Most 500-won items being skincare was true in July and true in August. Half the list can turn over and what belongs in your suitcase stays the same.

Data & Methodology

  • Source: Daisomall (daisomall.co.kr), all-category weekly sales ranking, places 1 to 300. Collected on July 29, 2026 and August 31, 2026.
  • Fields captured: product name, price, star rating, review count and NEW flag for each of the 300 places, plus the category path from each product page.
  • Categories: for the August round we looked up the full category path for all 300 products and mapped them onto our 13 editorial categories (zero unresolved). July was classified by hand, so the two rounds are not perfectly like for like. Read the category deltas as direction, not precision.
  • Comparing rounds: the July round has no product IDs, so the two lists were matched by normalised product name with one-to-one assignment (promotional tags stripped, but volume, count and colour markers kept so different variants do not collapse into one). The result is 157 items in common and 143 replaced. A product whose listed name changed substantially would register as replaced, so 143 is close to an upper bound.
  • Reviews: in July anything above 10,000 appeared only as the on-screen "9,999+". This round we obtained the uncapped review counts, and the review table uses those measured values.
  • Limits: this ranking covers online sales on Daisomall. In-store rankings may differ, particularly for bulky items and things people need immediately. And two rounds are a difference between two snapshots, not a trend.
