The short answer

  • The 2026 winter e-Frequency runs October 22 to December 31, 2026. Buy 17 made-to-order drinks, 3 of them mission drinks, and you can reserve one gift.
  • The headline gift is the Starbucks 2027 Planner. The other choices are a portable speaker and a corduroy or canvas bag. Extra drinks unlock a mini note keyring (+5) and a book cover (+10).
  • Gifts are reserved in the Starbucks Korea app and collected in store. Only members can reserve, and sign-up needs Korean identity verification, which most short-term visitors don't have.
  • Unused e-stickers and vouchers expire on January 1, 2027.

Every autumn, a lot of people in Korea start counting coffees. Not calories, not caffeine: stickers. Seventeen of them, collected one drink at a time, add up to a free planner from Starbucks, and for many Koreans that planner is how the new year starts.

The program is called the e-프리퀀시 e-Frequency. Here is how the 2026 winter edition works, what you can get, why people go to such lengths for it, and how much of it a visitor can actually join.

What is the Starbucks Korea e-Frequency?

The e-Frequency is Starbucks Korea’s seasonal sticker card: each made-to-order drink earns one e-sticker, and a full card of 17 gets you a gift. It usually runs twice a year, in summer and winter. The winter edition is the one with the planner.

The 17 stickers come in two kinds. Three must be 미션 음료 mission drinks, a short list of seasonal drinks Starbucks designates for the event. The other 14 are regular made-to-order drinks. Stickers land in your account when you pay. Starbucks Korea’s FAQ is clear that you can’t add them later from a receipt, and when a 1+1 coupon gets you a free second drink, only the drink you paid for counts.

The official notice doesn’t name the mission drinks. News reports from mid-October said they would be announced with the Christmas drinks, and the e-Frequency page in the app marks which ones count. If you hold both kinds of stickers when you reserve, regular stickers are used up first, so spare mission stickers are never wasted on the base count.

What are the 2026 winter e-Frequency gifts?

Seventeen stickers get you one of three gift lines: the Starbucks 2027 Planner, a portable speaker, or a bag. Keep collecting after that and two add-ons open up.

The planner comes in two versions, a 2027 daily planner and an undated one, according to Bizwatch and Segye Ilbo. The speaker is LEXON’s Mino T, which can hang from its loop and pair with a second unit for stereo. For the add-ons, the extra 5 or 10 drinks can be any made-to-order drink, mission or not.

Background

Launch week had a "double reward": from October 22 to 25, people who picked up a planner also got an undated planner or a mini note keyring while stock lasted, Segye Ilbo and WikiTree reported. That window is closed. This year's app also adds a waitlist for cancelled reservations. Bizwatch reported that you can join it from 7 a.m. for sold-out items, freed-up slots are announced at 3 p.m., and the sign-up lapses at midnight.

How do you reserve and pick up the planner?

You don’t get the planner at the counter when you finish your 17th drink. You reserve it in the Starbucks Korea app, then collect it at the store and date you picked. The official steps:

Practical tip

  • Don't miss your pickup. A no-show cancels the reservation and blocks new reservations for 7 days. Stickers return the next day.
  • Cancel early. You can cancel up to 3 days before the pickup date. Same-day reservations can be cancelled until 1 hour before closing.
  • No changes after confirmation. You can't switch store, color or item, and there are no exchanges for a change of mind.
  • Pick the right store. Drive-thru stores hand gifts out only in the café area. Kiosks can add stickers but can't hand out gifts. Some stores in amusement parks, ballparks and office buildings, and delivery-only stores, may not take reservations.
  • Delivery orders don't come with gifts. Stickers aside, nothing ships.
  • If every gift runs out, Starbucks may offer 3 free Tall drink coupons instead. You have to issue them yourself in the app during the event.

Can foreign tourists join the Starbucks Korea e-Frequency?

You can buy the drinks, but reserving a gift takes a Starbucks Korea member account, and opening one requires Korean identity verification. The sign-up page offers three ways to verify: Toss, a mobile phone in your own name, or i-PIN. It tells you to use a phone or i-PIN registered in your own name.

That is the same wall visitors hit with delivery apps. As our Korea SIM and eSIM guide explains, a tourist SIM may give you an 010 number but usually can’t pass carrier identity checks. Starbucks Korea doesn’t publish a separate route for foreign visitors.

Practical tip

  • Have a Korean friend who's a member? Members can gift e-stickers to each other, though a gift can't be taken back. Starbucks Korea also says a reservation barcode can be saved and passed on, and whoever shows it can collect the gift.
  • Living in Korea with a phone plan in your own name? That is the route the sign-up page asks for. Sign up before you start buying, because stickers can't be added from old receipts.
  • Just visiting? Paying with a Starbucks card you bought in Korea stores stickers on the card, and they move to a member account automatically when the card is registered. Without someone to register it, though, they will simply expire.

Why do Koreans care so much about a coffee-shop planner?

Because it has been a year-end ritual for more than two decades, and it lands right in Korea’s diary-buying season. Asia Economy dates the first Starbucks planner to 2003; The Korea Times wrote in 2015 that the yearly planners began in 2004. Either way, Starbucks has made them with Moleskine since 2014, Asia Economy reported, and the 17-drink rule was already in place a decade ago.

Paper planners are still big in Korea. From mid-September to the start of October 2026, diary sales on the fashion app Ably were up 65% on a year earlier, and stickers and 다꾸 diary-decorating goods also rose 65%, Segye Ilbo reported. Bookstore chains run 2027 diary fairs from late summer. If you want to see that culture up close, our guide to the stationery and diaries Koreans actually use covers the shops.

The planner also has a secondhand market. In 2022 single e-stickers traded for about ₩1,000 each on Danggeun Market and Bungaejangter, Asia Economy reported. This October, Economist Korea quoted user posts offering them for ₩6,000 to 7,000 apiece on Danggeun.

The 300-drink story, corrected: The famous case was not about planners. On May 22, 2020, a customer at a Starbucks in Yeouido ordered 300 drinks, took 17 of the summer event's "Ready Bag" carry bags and left with one coffee, leaving 299 behind, YTN reported from eyewitness accounts and social media posts.

📅 Recent Starbucks Korea e-Frequency editions (as reported)

Winter 2025October 30 to December 31, 2025Moleskine planners (daily, weekly, undated), 2026 calendar, MSGM blanket, humidifier, socks and pouch
Summer 2026Not heldSkipped after a May marketing controversy
Winter 2026October 22 to December 31, 20262027 Moleskine planner, LEXON speaker, bags, plus keyring and book cover add-ons

The summer 2026 gap matters for context. Starbucks Korea skipped that edition, saying it would put restoring customer trust first, after a promotion on May 18 drew wide criticism for echoing the 1980 Gwangju uprising, The Korea Times reported. That makes this winter’s planner the first e-Frequency gift in a year.

Is the Starbucks planner worth chasing on a trip?

For most short-term visitors, no. For a group with a Korean member friend, or a long stay, it can be a fun project. Seventeen drinks is a lot of coffee. Using the Tall Americano price of ₩4,700 that Kyunghyang Shinmun reported in January 2025 (we found no later change), the 14 regular drinks alone cost ₩65,800, and the seasonal mission drinks are usually pricier. Our Korean café price comparison shows how that stacks up against cheaper chains.

If you mainly want something Starbucks-and-Korea to take home, the Christmas tumblers and mugs on regular sale are far easier, and they need no account.
